Early Beginnings

In a small town in Kansas, a boy with a spark in his eye and adventure in his heart grew up to make history. His name was Charles Curtis, and he would rise like a kite on a windy day to become the first Vice President of the United States with Native American ancestry.
Charles was part Kaw, part Osage, part Potawatomi, and all determination. He spent part of his childhood riding horses and learning about the traditions of his mother's people before setting his sights on the world of law and leadership.

A Path to Politics

As Charles grew older, his love for his community and country grew too. He decided to become a lawyer, and soon after, he found himself stepping into the world of politics. With each election he won, he climbed another rung on the ladder that led to Washington, D.C.
Charles had a knack for making friends and reaching across the aisle to get things done. He served in both houses of Congress, making laws and shaping a nation, always with a steady hand and an open mind.

The day came when Charles Curtis made a promise to serve as Vice President under President Herbert Hoover. It was 1929, and history turned its pages to welcome him into its chapters. As Vice President, he worked hard and always remembered the lessons from his heritage—respect for others and a spirit of cooperation.
